Why We Built This Site
No single Illinois system supplies a complete criminal history. In Sangamon County, the jail roster concerns present custody, while the Circuit Clerk's docket follows filed charges and court outcomes. The Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification maintains the state repository, but a CHIRP conviction inquiry is not the same product as fingerprint-based Access and Review of one's own transcript. The Illinois Department of Corrections and the state registry serve separate purposes. This site arranges the official links, contacts, request routes, and access limits by the question each source can answer.
What You Will Find Here
- Record guides: how to search and interpret Sangamon County court cases
- Official check routes: the difference between an ISP conviction inquiry and fingerprint Access and Review
- Local contacts: the Sheriff, Circuit Clerk, jail, and Springfield-area offices that hold original files
- Record clearing: where Illinois expungement and sealing forms are filed and why restricted files disappear from public view
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference site, with no affiliation to an Illinois court, police department, sheriff, or state agency. Its role has firm limits:
- We cannot run an official background check or pull a criminal record for anyone
- We cannot file expungement petitions, records requests, or any other paperwork on your behalf
- We cannot issue certified copies of any criminal record, court document, or rap sheet
- We cannot give legal advice or explain how a specific charge or case applies to you
- We cannot guarantee that every phone number, fee, or address listed on this site is current right now
An official copy must come from its custodian, such as the Sheriff, Circuit Clerk, or Illinois State Police. This resource can identify that office but cannot issue the document.
Search Partners
Outside providers operate the search boxes that appear on some pages. Each provider controls its own service, results, prices, and privacy practices. A paid enrollment reached through one of those tools may produce a referral payment to this site, which supports public access to these guides. We neither set the provider's charges nor decide what its search returns.
